A hydrocele is a collection of fluid around a testicle that can occur at birth or in older boys and men later in life. Hydrocelectomy is surgery to correct the swelling of the scrotum when a build up of fluid occurs around the testicle.
What can I expect during the procedure?
Hydroceles are fairly common and can be performed in an outpatient setting. General anesthesia is used during the procedure so the patient will be asleep and pain free. A small incision is made where the sac will be drained. Stitches will be used to strengthen the muscle wall at the site of incision. The surgery lasts for 30 minutes.
